SDi Publishes Global Assessment Report 10.5
Aug 24, 2009

Los Angeles, CA, August 2009 - Strategic Directions International, Inc. announces the publication of the “Global Assessment Report 10.5: The Laboratory Life Science & Analytical Instrument Industry, 2007-2012”. This report provides detailed data on every major life science and analytical instrument technology in the industry, enabling you and your staff to make accurate evaluations and informed decisions. Numerous vendors, distributors and investors will reference this report over the coming years as the most comprehensive and accurate source of information on the instrument industry and specific technology markets.

While the original publication date was in September 2008, this report is a major revision that reflects SDi’s updated view of the market, taking into account the effects of the global recession ushered in by the crisis in the world’s financial markets. Market sizing for 2007 and 2008 have been slightly adjusted based on new information. Estimates for 2009 and SDi’s long-term outlook to 2012 have also been revised to reflect the changes in the market. Each instrument technique is covered in a five-page section that includes data and discussion of market segmentation by product, industry, function, and region referencing 2007 as the base year.

The report covers 66 individual instrumentation and related technologies segmented according to several primary classifications typically related to underlying techniques: separations, life science instrumentation, mass spectrometry, molecular spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, surface science techniques, materials characterization, lab automation, and general analytical techniques. For each instrument technology, the report quantifies the regional distribution of demand; the size of the market segmented according to initial systems, aftermarket, and service; unit shipments/installations; growth rates; and demand by industry and lab function. Each technology section also explores the state of the competitive playing field, including a list of the top vendors’ market shares and a vendor participation matrix.
The global market for analytical instrumentation increased from $26 billion in 2002 to more than $36 billion in 2007. The last few years have been particularly eventful for instrument companies with major acquisitions, partnerships and other business developments. Based on SDi’s analysis, the total analytical instrument market is projected to generate nearly $44 billion in annual revenues by 2012.

The top 50 companies accounted for about $31 billion in annual sales in 2008, representing more than three-fourths of the total instrument market. Many of these industry participants are broad-based suppliers looking to expand their market presence even further through mergers and/or acquisitions.

In researching and producing this report, SDi has leveraged its expertise in the laboratory instrumentation market, stemming from nearly 30 years of market research experience in this field. The information contained in this report will be invaluable to industry participants wishing to assess their current position in this marketplace, to current or future participants considering the advisability of entering the marketplace through product development or acquisition, and to financial analysts with an interest in analytical technologies or the industries served by these technologies, such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

“The Global Assessment Report, 10th Edition”, containing more than 600 pages of data and analysis, is available for USD $6,495 and intranet PDF version (including one hardcopy) for $8,995.
